PICKERING VETERANS' ASSOCIATION
« on: April 18, 2012, 04:56:14 PM »
http://www.pickvets.com/

We originally began our group during the year of 2004 in preparation for the 60th year celebration of WW11 when the Government dedicated 2005 as "The Year of The Veteran 2005".

We are a group primarily of WW11 Veterans and we were members of the South Pickering Seniors’ Club and wrote our first book entitled "Freedom". We changed our name and location on December 29th 2007 and became known as “The Pickering Veterans’ Association”. This change gave us the opportunity to increase the size of our club by
inviting all City of Pickering Veterans to join us. We have recently seen expressed interest in expanding our club to include Veterans returning from Afghanistan and/or those that have contributed in a humanitarian/peacekeeping capacity in various missions throughout the world, in service to their country. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Pickering Recreation Centre at 2PM to enjoy refreshments and the fellowship of our comrades.
*******************************************************************************************************************************
Currently we are canvassing for "present Veterans who have returned from Afghanistan/Kandahar and various missions as noted above to join us at the Pickering Recreation Centre on the first Tuesday evening of each month at 7PM. We meet separately due to the WW11 Veterans requiring to meet during the daytime hours and the present Veterans are only available in the evenings.

Our new division is called "Present and Past" . The first stage of our new group consists of informing the community we are prepared to volunteer our time to take part in “not for profit organizations”.  We will also take part in various events to create exposure for the Pickering Veterans Association "Present and Past" as we endeavour to make a positive impact on the community.

The second stage would be more of a therapeutic nature, in that we can benefit by sharing our experiences. We also endeavour to have guest speakers at our meetings to discuss various subjects, primarily those which address the impact of war on a soldier and the stresses of reintegration following return from duty.

As the “Pickering Veterans Association, Past and Present” we endeavour to keep the name “Veteran” alive in the community in respect of those that have served in wars previous and present, and in remembrance of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We also look forward to sharing time with our WW11 Veterans throughout the year and sharing their experiences.

If you know of any Veterans or you are a Veteran that has served overseas, please contact
