Snowbirds, public show coming up

By Spencer Anderson, Comox Valley EchoApril 20, 2012

The Snowbirds are returning to Comox next week to prepare for months of touring beginning in May.

The team of Canadian Forces demonstration pilots will arrive at 19 Wing on Apr. 23 (Monday) and train until May 6, whereupon they set off to perform 59 shows in North America over the next six months.

Meanwhile, the CF-18 Demonstration Team will arrive a few days later on April 27 (Friday) for training for their flying season, which this year is themed 'The True North Strong and Free.'

The Snowbirds will be flying over Comox on a daily basis, including some weekends. 19 Wing spokesman Lt. Trevor Reid said residents should be aware of aircraft in the air from 9 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m., followed by 30 minutes of CF-18 practice.

The Snowbirds will be performing a public show on May 4, although the exact time and location has not been decided, said Reid. In the past, Snowbird shows have taken place at Goose Spit.

The next day (May 5), there will be a meet and greet event with the Squadron at the Air Force Museum for photo opportunities and autographs.
