HMCS Charlottetown being deployed to Arabian Sea

Postmedia NewsApril 22, 2012

OTTAWA — Defence Minister Peter MacKay said Sunday a Canadian frigate that has been a part of NATO’s anti-terror campaign in the Mediterranean Sea since late January was being deployed to the Arabian Sea.

MacKay said HMCS Charlottetown, which departed from Halifax on Jan. 8, would join Combined Task Force 150 to conduct security and counter-terrorism operations in the region.

“In the coming week, our sailors aboard Charlottetown will work as part of a large international coalition that continues Canada’s leadership in international security,” MacKay said. "I’m proud of the service and accomplishments that the men and women of HMCS Charlottetown have achieved while deployed in support of Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean Sea. Their transition to the Arabian Sea region demonstrates Canada’s resolve to make a difference in the world."

The Halifax-based frigate carries more than 250 sailors as well as a Sea King helicopter.
