Subject: Canadian Institute for Military and Veterans Health Research

As you may be aware, during my tenure as Surg Gen, I worked with Queen's University to create CIMVHR. The purpose of CIMVHR was to carry out independent academic research on the health of military, veterans and family, related to service. There is simply no capacity within the CF to carry out all the varied research needed to address the needs. It is important for an arms length approach to give the research results independence, both in reality and in perception. As CIMVHR receives no direct funding from the government, it relies on the generosity of donors. CIMVHR now comprises of a network of 24 universities so it has tremendous potential and it is truly pan Canadian. However, it is still nascent and it's continued existence is not guaranteed. So if your group has any interest or concern about the long term health effects related to service in the CF, please consider a tax deductible donation to CIMVHR. You can get more info by visiting www.cimvhr.ca/. Please feel free to share with your membership.
