Pennies for Veterans

Canadian Veterans Advocacy Homeless Veterans Program

Next time you pass a homeless person on the street, remind yourself that he or she could be a veteran. There is a real possibility that this man or woman served our country; they may have put themselves in harm's way in defence of Canada or in an effort to bring peace to another country.

1 in 4 people living on the streets is a veteran
in the United States.

The statistics for Canada are unknown, but it is estimated that there is likely thousands of veterans sleeping rough - either on the streets or in the bush – under extremely adverse conditions and in abject poverty. These hardships are exacerbated by mental illness as well as drug and alcohol abuse, and by Canada’s extreme winter weather.

Pennies for Veterans

pennies for veteransThe CVA is determined help change this. We want to provide hope where there is no hope through a campaign of awareness, decency and compassion. That is why we launched the Pennies for Veterans program.

Pennies for Veterans is designed to present a nationwide, community-friendly program where individuals, service and social clubs, schools, businesses and veterans associations can demonstrate their patriotic commitment to Canada's veterans simply through the collection of spare change in their respective spheres of influence.

Winter is looming and our goal is to provide support to outreach programs in Halifax, Montreal and Calgary. This is a noble project and it does not compete with the RCL Poppy Fund. Pennies for Veterans is unique. All funds raised are dedicated to assisting veterans who are in most desperate need. The CVA is focused on Halifax, Montreal and Calgary, all of urgent concern, with Halifax as a priority due to the urgent need and proactive operations of V.E.T.S. Canada.
