Trial Lawyers for Veterans
The CVA has recently learned that the Trial Lawyers for Veterans program is overwhelmed with requests for assistance. All those who agreed to assist veterans pro-bono are now carrying a full case load and are unable to accept new cases. As such, the OTLA has suspended the program.
The Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) established the Trial Lawyers for Veterans Program in December 2010. The program provided veterans with access to pro-bono (FREE) legal representation to assist them in their dealings with VAC, whether it be in response to unsatisfactory disability benefit, challenges with the appeals process or problems with the VRAB. Veterans who feel they have nowhere else to turn are encouraged to seek counsel from this patriotic organization.
Although the program is currently suspended, we recommend that those who had hoped to use this service contact the OTLA to inquire if there has been any change in the case load or the availability of assistance through the OTLA.
